Barnstormers sign 2011 American Association Batting Champion, and 2011 Frontier ERA Champ

The Lancaster Barnstormers made waves on Tuesday signing 2011 American Association batting champion Blake Gailen, and 2011 Frontier League ERA Champ Mark Brackman.

Blake Gailen lead the American Association with a .406 average last season while playing for the Lincoln Saltdogs. Gailen only played in 69 for the Lincoln before he was signed by the Los Angeles Angels organization in July.

Prior to being signed by the Angels, Gailen had never been signed by a major league organization, and his entire career was spent in independent leagues with Wichita (American Association) in 2008, Chcio (Golden League) 2009-10.

Mark Brackman was originally a 16th round selection (511th overall) by the Detroit Tigers in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft out of William Jewell College. He played two seasons in the Tigers organization with Oneonta, and and Lakeland.

In 2009, he signed with Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League. He struggled in his first season with the Grizzles going 6-10 with a 4.93 ERA.

Brackman turned things around in 2010 going 13-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 21 games. His success continued in 2011 when he posted a 7-5 record with a league leading 2.15 ERA.
