Baseball Card Set Review: 1999 Newark Bears

Fifty years after the original Newark Bears team left the city in 1949, the modern day Bears franchise  returned to Newark in 1999 as a member of the Atlantic League.

After spending their first season playing home games in Bridgeport, the 1999 Newark Bears started the season with Skylands Park in Augusta as their home field until Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium opened on July 16th. It looks like all of the photos in the 1999 baseball card set were taken at that temporary home. Multi-Ad Sports produced an unnumbered card set for the Newark Bears. The fronts feature posed photographs of the players, surrounded by a purple border which matches the team’s jerseys. The card backs are printed in black and white, with biographical information printed over a faded Newark Bears logo.
