Patriots sign Carter and Reese

The Somerset Patriots announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed catcher Yusuf Carter and right-handed pitcher Kevin Reese for the 2012 season.

Yusuf Carter was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 12th round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft (he was also drafted by the Mariners in 2003, and the A's in 2004, but didn't sign). He played five seasons in the Cubs organization before joining the Oakland A's organization in 2009. His best season in the A's organization came in 2009 with Stockton (A+), when he hit .318 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI.  Last season, he started the season in the A's organization with Midland (AA) but was released. On May 31, 2011, he signed with the Somerset Patriots, and hit .247 with 6 home runs, and 19 RBI in 52 games for the Patriots.

Kevin Reese had a 3-3 record with a 5.84 ERA in 86.1 innings pitched for the Patriots last season. From 2008-2010, he pitched in the Frontier League for the Washington WildThings , and Traverse City Beach Bums.
