Barnstormers Sign Merchan And Harvey

The Lancaster Barnstormers announced on Wednesday that they have signed infielder Jesus Merchan and outfielder Ryan Harvey for the 2012 season.

Jesus Merchan  has played in the Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies organizations. He's played at the Triple-A level six different times throughout his career.  Last season, he hit .300 with 1 home run and 28 RBI between Florida's Triple-A affiliate New Orleans  and Colorado's Triple-A affiliate Colorado Springs.

Ryan Harvey was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 1st Round (6th overall) of the 2003 MLB Amateur Draft. He played six seasons in the Cubs organization with his best season coming in 2005 with Peoria (A) when he hit .257 with 24 home runs and 100 RBI. Harvey has played for the Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate Tulsa the last two seasons.

Merhcan is a solid addition to the Lancaster roster. He's a contact hitter who will put the ball in play and make things happen. While Harvey is power hitter who hits a lot of home runs. The Barnstormers will now have a very dangerous lineup with addition Harvey to go with Tommy Everidge and Cesar Nicolas.
