Bluefish Sign English And Bateman

The Bridgeport Bluefish have signed pitchers Jesse English and Joe Bateman for the 2012 season.

Jesse English was drafted by the San Fransisco Giants in the 6th round (187th overall) of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft. He had his best season for the Giants organization in 2008, when he posted a 13-7 record with 3.19 ERA in 135.1 innings pitched. After seven seasons in the Giants organization, English was claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals in September of 2009. English started the 2010 season in the major leagues with the Washington Nationals. He pitched in 7 games for the Nationals that season, posting a 3.86 ERA in 7 innings pitched. Last season, he pitched 11 games for the St. Paul Saints in the American Association.

Joe Bateman was selected by the San Fransisco Giants in the 32nd round (4509th overall) of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft. Bateman has pitched in the San Fransisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Oakland A's organizations. He pitched at the Triple-A level from 2008 to 2011, posting a 17-6 record with 14 saves and a 2.97 ERA in 237 innings pitched.
