Somerset Signs Three More

The Somerset Patriots have signed pitchers Carlton Smith, and Douglas Arguello, as well as catcher Adam Donachie for the 2012 season.

A native of Piscataway, NJ, Carlton Smith was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 21st (617th overall) round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft. He played six seasons in the Indians organization from 2005-2011. His his best season came in 2009 with Akron(AA), when he posted a 6-2 record with a 2.72 ERA in 79.1 innings pitched. He started the 2011 season in the Indians organization with Columbus(AAA) but was traded to the Chicago Cubs organization in July. He has a career 36-30 record with a 4.39 ERA in 550 innings pitched.

Douglas Arguello signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Astros in 2001. He played nine seasons in the Astros organization before signing with the Texas Rangers organization in August of 2011. Last season, he split time with Oklahmoa City(AAA) and Round Rock(AAA) in the Pacific Coast League. He has a career 45-49 record, with a 4.06 ERA and 5.99 strikeouts in 784 innings pitched.

Adam Donachie was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 2nd round (47th overall) of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft. He played seven seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization before joining the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2009. He's played at the Triple-A level twice in his career with Norfolk (Baltimore) in 2010 and 2011.
